Hello friends and fans,

Here is a sneaky peak of my latest Moonalice poster. All hand lettered and I snuck in a windmill on this one. I cloud not resist, since I am enamored by them. I don't why but they are cool lol! My original line work drawing is pencil on vellum. Oh and I joined instagram ( careful, it's addicting), so my photo below is a photo I took using this fun app. :). Hello all,

I have been absent from the bloggy blog world lately. I have not been in the blogging mood. Anyways, I went to a couple of fun events the past two weeks and here are some pictures that I thought I would share.

First off, the band I illustrate posters for, Moonalice opened up for U2 along with Lenny Kravitz. How cool is that? Hubby and I went and we had a blast.

Here are some pics from the show.

The lovely Ann Anatomic from Moonalice rocking the stage. They played a great set and sounded awesome! The sunlight that was shining down then, was harsh on the screen...oof.

Then Lenny Kravitz's turn! :) Notice our seating section...not a soul DIRECTLY in front of us! That is because hubby and I grabbed a spot on the baseball diamond fence so there would be nobody directly in front of us and we could see. :) We were so HAPPY and LOVED our seats (ahem, I mean standing seats lol)! Plus, since it was a standing room only section we could sit down on our blankie and sit against the fence in between bands to rest our feet. :)

Then U2.....yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! :)

U2 played an amazing show!!! Their stage set up was A-W-E-S-O-M-E! Best concert I have ever been to, besides seeing Pink Floyd there in 1994. :)

Then a week and half later, hubby and I went to the Sonoma County Hot Air Balloon Festival. I was super excited to go to this cause I LOVE LOVE LOVE hot air balloons and have been to the amazing one in New Mexico. So here are a few pics.

Here is the dawn patrol at 5AM. Yes, I was on the field at 5AM and though it was not as fabulous as I had pictured, it was still fun and very surreal being up that early. :)

My favorite balloon of them all was Sushi, piloted by Katie Griggs from Nevada. :)

Some of the awesome balloons all blown up ready for take off! The only problem was the dreaded fog decided to pay Windsor a visit that day and the balloons could not launch....booooooo. So they deflated and hubby and I left. We still had fun and spent the rest of the day wandering around Healdsburg and visiting my great aunt, which was time very well spent. :)

I am currently working on new posters for Moonalice. I'll be posting my latest one soon, so stay tuned! :)

Good ol' fashioned American Windmills! Silly I know but I just LOVE them. I found these vintage gems hiding out in the boonies near my folk's house. Don't be surprised if you start seeing windmills showing up in my posters lol! :)

New poster for Moonalice's Paia, Maui show

Here is my latest poster that I just finish illustrating for the band Moonalice. How ironic that when I came back from Hawaii I found out they are playing some show dates in parts of Hawaii. I was thrilled that I got to do one of their dates. Hawaii is my favorite place on the planet! :) I am really trying hard to step up my work to new levels. I am experimenting with new techniques and having fun. All my line work is drawn by hand on vellum then scanned and colored in Photoshop. All my textures are built from scratch using gesso and gouache. I love how this poster came out. :)

Moonalice are a wonderful band to work for and I feel so incredibly blessed that my poster artist friend Chris Shaw (art director) invited me to hop on board and be a part of their lovely poster artist group. Moonalice commissions a poster for every date they play and hands out a FREE poster at the show. You can check out more about Moonalice on their site HERE. They are also the only band with a live couch tour! They broadcast all their shows live on MoonaliceTV

I am glad to be working on new commissions again. I went through a horrible artist block but running away to Hawaii did amazing things for me. Sometimes you just need to run away. :)

Hawaii is my favorite place on the planet. I am so lucky I get to go there almost every year because my hubby teaches workshops there at the University of Hawaii. He travels there at least twice a year. I try to go at least once a year or every other year. This time I spent ten days there. It was the longest break from life that I have had in a long time and I had a wonderful time. Here are a few pics to share with you all from my trip. My hubby likes to take photos of me jumping. This photo is at Waialae Beach Park in Oahu. It is a very special place to us because this is where we got married in 2010. :)

...and psssss next door to this park is a dolphin pool. They are such amazing creatures. So smart...love them! :)

I went to the Waikiki Aquarium and met Moka the Hawaiian monk seal. His trainer is doing a check on him. :)

I turned another year older when I was there. We ate at my favorite place Irafune...garlic crab to die for! :) The restaurant made me a crepe and sang Happy Birthday to me...it was so nice. :)

My favorite beach in all of North Shore, Pipeline! This is home of some of the biggest waves in all of Oahu. I can sit here for hours and watch them. I love everything about surfing but actually the surfing part itself, ha!

Then ONE hour later and intense thunder and lightning storm....whoaaaaa! Hubby and I were sharing a snow cone when all of sudden it started pouring super hard and flash floods started to happen before our eyes...crazy!

Our last morning there we got up at 5AM so my hubby could photograph the sunrise at Makapuu Beach. So beautiful with the thunderstorm clouds. Here is my hubby hard at work. My hubby is a photographer. He teaches photo and design workshops at the University there. :)

Ya...it's been awhile!

Hello all,

It has been a long time since I have written a post. First of all Happy New Year! I hope 2011 is going well for everyone. :) I have been very busy working in my other fields of work (my other passions), also freelancing with graphic work from time to time, but my main focus has been the health of my spine. I found out in December, that I have about a 20 degree curve in my back from scoliosis. I knew I had a slight curve and was never in pain until 2010. After being in various pains (rib, sternum, shoulder then spine), and being misdiagnosed with Costochondritis by a doctor, I consulted with another doctor to see what was really causing my pains. I finally got a chest x-ray and this showed my scoliosis possibly putting pressure on my ribs and sternum (areas of my pain). I never knew my scoliosis was this bad. I was petrified when I saw my x-rays. My hubby has a wonderful chiropractor, who I have chose to work with. I have been working with him and he has been helping me greatly with my scoliosis. My chiropractor told me he thought Yoga would be excellent for me. So I quickly joined a studio and have been doing Yoga solid nearly everyday through classes and DVDs at home. It has been LIFE CHANGING for me. I am getting amazing results in my spine and my scoliosis is getting better. I am in little to no pain...woohoo! :) I am grateful for all the wonderful yoga teachers who have been helping me in their classes. It is fact that you can decrease your scoliosis curve with Yoga and this has been my mission. In the first two weeks I started Yoga, I went back to my chiro to see how I was doing. He was amazed by how quickly the Yoga has made my back muscles more supple and he said my scoliosis was manageable....hooray! Usually, he said it is not. As you get older the back muscles tend to stay stiff. My hubby recently looked at my spine and said it is possibly I have decreased my curvature by 50%. He said my spine looks MUCH better. Only my chiro and new x-rays can really determine if this is true but since I am really thin, it is very easy to see my spine and the improvements with it. I am planning to go back to my chiro within the next couple of weeks and I cannot wait to show him my improvements. Yoga is amazing! Though, I cannot twist myself like a pretzel, the most important thing is I am giving it my all and getting amazing results.

Now onto my art. What have I been working on and honestly I am sorry to say nothing. From time to time, I still work on design work for various clients. I have started sewing a felt creation that I need to finish. It is a a brand new medium that I am teaching myself. All my time has been taken up by working on the health of spine, my other fields of work, spending time with my beautiful husband and something I never talk about (as it is very emotional) running back and forth to Northern California to care for my chronically ill dad. Don't worry, I am VERY happy and that is all that matters. I have been thinking strongly about what direction I want to go with my art. I still enjoy doing poster art from time to time but living like a sardine in San Francisco, I have little to no storage place for my prints. I like to do SOOOOO many things in life that it is hard for me to focus on just ONE thing, ONE field and ONE medium. I LOVE being well rounded in so many things! It makes life so much fun and enjoyable, at least for me. I do miss creating and now that my schedule has lessened a bit, I do plan to get back into it. Also, deciding on what direction I want to go with my art.

The Tulips pictured above is taken at the Tulip Garden in Golden Gate Park, right before Valentine's Day. My wonderful hubby and I recently celebrated our first year wedding Anniversary. I cannot believe we have been married a year already. It seems like yesterday we were traveling to Hawaii and getting married on the beach. :)

What's been going on???

Hello all,

I have been crazy busy wielding all the different things I do in my life. This past week I just finished picking walnuts with my awesome mom and stepdad. I own my own mini walnut orchard in Lake County, CA, which was gratefully given to me by my grandfather when I was a child. I am 3rd generation in walnuts in my family. My grandfather (who was a judge and lawyer) had a huge 33 acre walnut orchard and that was his passion. I have been working in agricultural since I was a kid and I thrive in physical work. I just love the open country air and working outside with my hands, is just so rewarding!

This picture was taken this summer where the walnuts are growing away on the trees. :)

A hair of the pickings!

Here are some of last year's packaging of 2009 walnuts. I used to sell my walnuts to a dryer but now my family and I pick them, crack them and package them all by hand. We then store them away for cooking purposes, also give to our friends and families for the holidays. Oh we do have a special walnut cracker thingie that makes our life easier during the cracking part. The whole process is TONS of work but it is super rewarding! My walnuts are all 100% organic! Right now all the pickings are drying at my mom's. Then we will start cracking and packaging in a couple of weeks.

After 56 years of torture the, San Francisco Giants have won their first World Series...woohoo! Say goodbye to TORTURE! I have been soooo sucked into baseball and walking on pins and needles watching the postseason. It is so exciting for our city of San Francisco. We are all so proud of the SF Giants and it has been wonderful to watch the whole city glow in orange.

Here is hubby and I on Halloween. I am in just in awe of my hubby. We are really enjoying being married, it is really wonderful. I wanted us to be the characters from the movie, The Princess Bride. Our costumes looked great and we had a lot of fun. I found the most amazing 60's vintage Gunne Sax medieval looking dress in a vintage shop that was absolutely perfect for my costume. Plus, I can wear it to a ton of other parties...BONUS!!!

Oh and here is a rare and epic Sunset that took place on November 4th at home in San Francisco. Pretty huh?

I am currently working on some personal projects which involves turning some of my hand drawn designs into felt, hand sewn creations! Don't worry I be sure to show you what I am creating soon!

New poster for Moonalice's San Diego show

Here is my newest commissioned poster for the band Moonalice with 7 Walkers. This is for their San Diego show on October 26,2010. I have been enamored with carousel horses lately, don't ask me why but I had to put one in my latest poster. It was super fun to draw and design. So expect more carousel horses in my future work to come.

Also, my inspiration came from one of the Moonalice legends they post on Facebook. Just before they were gonna play last time at Winston's - San Diego they stated...."According to Moonalice legend, the show at Winston's in San Diego promises to be a hippie carnival" What a perfect line to go with my carousel horse inspiration and my psychedelic 60's style! :)

A Glimpse behind the scenes...

Here is a glimpse of my line work. I do a full scale final drawing of the poster, then I overlay vellum on my original drawing. I use Clearprint vellum because it is so forgiving and very clean. All my line work is done with pencil then I have a technique in Photoshop to turn it into ink line work. I spend hours upon hours on the designing and drawing of each of my posters. The drawing and the line work is my favorite part of the poster. I then color the poster in Photoshop. I hope you all dig it. :)

Here is another page in my sketch journal I did. Seriously loving these watercolor pencils and my waterbrushes. :) I liked this little sketch and for the record I love drawing flowers. I bought a bouquet of flowers for my mom from our local Farmer's Market for only $3. This is where this sketch came from. It is such a good deal. Support your local farmer's market!

Oh and here is a just a GLIMPSE of a drawing I am working on...not for a poster. Not sure what I am going to do with it. I just need to finish it!

Still have not practiced any sewing. My machine is lonely...

Elsewhere Gallery - Artomobile Gallery Show

At Elsewhere Gallery there will be a gallery show called Artomobile for the month of September. It is all about art featuring cars. My recent Moonalice poster that I did for their Concord show, was invited to be a part of this show. How fun! :) The opening reception will be this Friday night September 3rd in Fairfax from 6-9PM. There will also be a car show on September 12 with a special event TBA. I LOVE car shows!!! :)

UPDATE: 9-4-2010

The gallery show was really fun. It was a small funky gallery in Fairfax called Elsewhere Gallery. The turnout was amazing...lots of people! I just had one poster and it was a very diverse show with all kinds of art with "automobiles" as the subject theme. I was honored that my Moonalice Concord poster was invited to be a part. :)

Watercolor Pencils + Embarking on keeping a sketchbook journal

I hope you all are having a great weekend. You know, I have met some really amazing people though Twitter and I am thankful for that. There is one lady that I have met, that has really inspired me to embark on a new journey. I want to introduce you to a great Twitter pal that I have made named, Elaine Frenett. Elaine is an award-winning artist, that is published from coast to coast. Her work is in collections, private, international and museums. She has a passion for Journaling and now shares it through her popular classes. Her sketch journals are drop dead gorgeous and this is where she has inspired me. Just check out some of her journal pages HERE. See, I told you they were gorgeous. :) I LOVE her hand writing too...just stunning! :)

So inspired from reading her blog, I quickly checked out this book from my local library. I got about 3/4 of it read so far and I am learning a lot. :)

So off I went to the art store to look for a new small sketchbook for my journal. I got a Canson 5.5X8.5 small sketchbook that is perfect. :) I have many sketchbooks but nothing that is fully complete. I am always drawing in this one and that one but this book I am studying tells you to have different subjects. Besides drawing psychedelic posters with my fun style, I really love drawing all sorts of things. So I am calling this my life drawing journal. My hubby got me a set of 36 Derwent watercolor pencils for me awhile back as a gift that I have not used before starting my journal.

Now Watercolors and I are not the best of friends but pencil and I are....sooooo I thought my journal would be the perfect thing for them. I know it is best to use watercolor paper with them but I did some research and sketchbook paper seems to be fine. I am using a 65lb paper and I am using very little water with them. I saw a tutorial on youtube about how to use them and the instructor was using a waterbrush. It is a brush and it's handle holds water. You just squeeze when you need some water....so cool. I had to pick some of these up. So I got a small and a medium one. These little guys are great and they have a lovely fine tip. :)

So my plan with my journal is to draw in it whenever I can and to document about what I draw. Above, is my most successful journal page with using the watercolor pencils. This is only my third time using them. I had some marbles I wanted to draw and set up a little still life and spent the afternoon today working on this drawing. It was a lot of fun. Some areas are overworked but I am learning how to use them. I plan to use pencil plus pen and ink too. I will keep you all posted with what I do. I won't post every page but if it is blog worthy, then I will show it here. :)

New Poster for Moonalice's Concord show

Hello everyone,

I just completed my second poster for the band Moonalice. I had so much fun working on this poster! Lately, I have been inspired by old school drive-in theatre signs and really wanted to do something fun with the lettering. I am really pleased with the way it came out! :) I draw everything all by hand. I make a full scale final drawing then all my line work is all done by hand on layers of vellum. Sometimes I do brush and ink work for my line work. My color work is done digitally while my textures are all made by hand with gesso and gouache. The only thing that is not drawn by hand is the letters in the marquee. Some big progress I have been making in these Moonalice posters is hand lettering (my last Moonalice poster is all hand lettered). In this poster, the Moonalice letters are all hand lettered and I am slowly moving away from fonts in my work (though I did use a font for the marquee letters but hey I did say slowly). :) I love muscle cars and 60's Corvettes so this is where my car inspiration comes from. I love drawing my girls with my signature hair and I thought it would be fun to bring back my girl that I drew in my Summer of Love poster. I like drawing swirly things and I thought a lollipop would be the perfect thing to go along with her swirly hair. I love the 60's mod fashion era and this is where the inspiration came from to design her outfit. Of course you know I am sooooo influenced by the 60's, so of course I had to color it some cool saturated 60's colors! Woohoo! :) Stay tuned as I will be doing more poster work for this band! :)

UPDATE: 8-13-2010

Moonalice played a wonderful show at the Concord Market Series. The weather was beautiful and there was a lovely large crowd of people. Moonalice gives away a free poster at every show they play and they play about 100 shows a year so I offered to sign my poster for the concert attendees. :) The posters were all gone by the end of the show and they were a hit. The poster is only available free at the show, after that if you missed getting one I do sell limited signed prints available on my website.

Just a little sketch...

I just spent some time in northern CA with my folks. My mom has a lovely garden growing and I helped plant some sugar peas a couple of months ago. They are growing like weeds with the all the rain we have had. :) We put some string up so the vines can wrap around them. They looked like so much fun to draw with their twisty vines so I thought I would do a little sketch of them in my sketchbook. I did not spend very long on this as I would have burnt to a crisp in the sun but I liked the way this sketch was going.

Hello everyone,

I have been very busy working on my latest poster commission and juggling everything else I do in my life. Sorry for not posting much lately. Here is just a quick sketch I did of some roses a couple of weeks back while in Sonoma that I kinda liked. The roses there are so beautiful! There are rows of them that line Highway 121 and they all are in amazing colors. I love all kinds of roses and don't really know of all the different kinds. What are some of your favorite types of roses?

Hi Everyone,

I am finally posting a few pics from Dan and I's Wedding Reception party that was on April 17, 2010. For those of you that are just tuning in, Dan and I had an intimate beach wedding (aka eloped) in Hawaii on Feb. 13, 2010. You can see some our favorite wedding pics that were shot by our awesome photographer Barbara Gibson HERE on a previous post. We had a reception party for friends and family two months later in San Francisco. It took us a bit to gather some pictures from some of our friends that took pictures so that we can share! :)

We had an amazing FREE space to hold our reception party in. We had a giant 1300 + square foot room (where we had tables, chairs, DJ, and a cool photoboof) that had an awesome lounge area adjacent to it, equipped with leather couches, a pool table and a dining area. We decided to have a potluck wedding and each of our guests brought a tasty dish...it was awesome! We had so many amazing dishes that were cooked straight from the heart.

This picture does not even do justice because this only half of the table. We had yummy salads, wonderful meat dishes, snacks, dips and tasty desserts not to mention amazing wedding cake. :)

My beautiful family (From left: Me, my uncle Vic, my cousin Gail, my awesome mom, my beautiful hubby, my cousin Taylor, our friend Diane, my stepdad, and cousin Doug). My dad is such a special person in my life and could not be here because he has been sick for a very long time and I run back and forth to northern CA to take care of him. He was with me there in spirit that day. Dan's family is on the East Coast and we will be flying out sometime this year to do a celebration with them as well. :)

Our friend Alec is the mastermind behind the infamous San Francisco photoboof and brought one of his wedding boofs to our wedding party so we could all do silly pics. Here are a couple of silly ones. There were soooo many fun ones.

Dan and I had such a wonderful day and a paradise wedding. We did our whole wedding and party for under 4K! This included EVERYTHING (Our Hawaii Beach wedding, our wedding photographer, clothes, invitations, spending money, hotel, rentals for our reception, etc). Some of our friends thought I should write how I did our wedding on such a budget and maybe I will do a post on how to have a beach wedding without spending a lot! Dan and I don't believe in spending tons of money on a wedding, we rather invest into buying a house for our future. :)

WIP Wednesday: My newest creative adventure...sewing!

In November, while thumbing through a vintage fashion book, a spark ignited inside of me to get this crazy idea to try sewing. What kind of vintage fashion ignited my spark? The 1960's Mod Fashion Era...the cool A frame dresses, Twiggy's cool mod clothes of the 60's. I would love to make myself some clothes inspired from this era....even if I could make one piece, I would be jumping for joy! :)

But I knew NOTHING about sewing...I did not even own a sewing machine...so onward to sewing classes! I found a great place in San Francisco called CraftHaven that had 5 basic skill classes...perfecto, just what I needed to get me started! So in December, I took 4 of them and I learned a lot! Just by luck, I was visiting my great Aunt in Northern California and I told her I signed up to take sewing classes....and guess what.....

She just happened to have a Singer CG500 sewing machine sitting in her garage in practically new condition that she said I could have. Whhhoooaaaa! She told me she used it once and said the tension was off and was frustrated with it so she bought a Brother. I told her I am sure I can get the tension fixed by bringing it into a shop. Wow, thank you great Aunt Anne! :)

Back to my classes......here is what I have learned so far.

In my first class called, Uber Basics we learned all about the sewing machine, how to thread it, wind bobbin, load bobbin, sewing backstitches, proper seam allowances, pivots. We made an eye pillow and practice sewing on squares.

The second class I took was called, Basics Part Deux. We learned elastic casings, how to sew on buttons using a button foot, snaps, grommets and interfacing. We made a little bag and practiced sewing buttons and making buttonholes.

The third class I took was called, Zip it up! We leaned all about centered, lapped, separating, invisible type zippers, basting stitches, proper alignment and pressing techniques. So above are my zipper samples from the third class.

The fourth class I took was called, Basic Hems. We learned about all kinds of hems such as double fold, bound, cover, blind, rolled, and baby hems. We made a sample of each type of hem.

I practiced with my machine to get to know it and I did not realize it is a commercial machine and holy smokes is it faaaaast! It is most likely way too advanced for me but I am going to stick with it.

In December, I also wanted to try and hand sew some Christmas ornaments with felt for my mom. So I made these baby stockings for my mom and step dad's tree. This was my first attempt at hand sewing lettering and I was really pleased at the way it turned out. They looked adorable on my mom's tree. I made my hubby, Dan one too for our tree.

The Ultimate Sewing Book...

Hubby got me this used 1995 edition of the Reader's Digest Complete Sewing Guide off Amazon for Christmas. I wanted this particular version cause it has a lot of stuff that was not cut out in the newer versions. I did a lot of research and this was by far the best book on Sewing and my teacher also recommended this exact version to me.

I wanted to make a Mod looking style Cape for my first project. My mom got me this pattern I saw plus some sewing tools for Christmas. The one circled is the one I am going to make.

Then over dinner in December Dan said, why don't we have an intimate beach wedding Valentines Day weekend, instead of getting married on our original set wedding date of 10-10-10. We were going to be in Hawaii anyway. I had to give it some thought and talk it over with my parents and I decided it was a fantastic idea. So my sewing came to a sudden halt and I have been lost in wedding land. Now that my intimate beach wedding in Hawaii and my reception party ( that we had in April for our friends and family) is now over, I can get back to sewing.

So to keep me on track with my sewing goals I wanted to blog about it. So far, I have my pieces cut out. I am making a prototype sample first with some cheap green fabric so I don't mess up nice fabric. My mom suggested I do this and I think it is really smart. So I will keep you posted with my project. So my first goal is to finish my prototype, I am nervous about it as I have not practiced at all since December. As soon as I finish it, I will post my progress. Thanks for reading. :)

Hello Everyone,

I had permission from our super FANTASTIC wedding photographer Barbara Gibson, that I could post some of our wedding photos, she took of our intimate beach wedding in Oahu. We got married at Waialae Beach Park in Oahu, Hawaii, a beautiful setting and a perfect place to tie the knot! :)

I just want to say Barbara was absolutely amazing! We could not ask for a better photographer! She was down to earth (like us), very professional in handling everything and she even stayed longer than the time we booked her for...an added bonus! Our mouths dropped when we saw our pics. She really captured the magic between us on our special day!

How we found her: Flickr! That's right folks...Flickr is how we found her...so thank you Flickr! Looking for a wedding photographer can be a pretty daunting task because there are soooo many good ones. What Dan and I liked about Flickr is we could see many photographer's work TOGETHER on a page. That way we could see many photographer's work side by side and we could see whose work captured our eyes the most. We did searches like: Oahu photographer, Hawaii wedding etc. We found many pages with Barbara's work. Each flickr page we clicked on, we saw her work...we kept clicking on them...they stood out...we loved her style, compositions, color...so we emailed her, booked her and the rest was history! :)

So Dan and I would like to share some of our favorite wedding photos by Barbara Gibson. We loved them all and there were soooo many we loved but these were some of our absolute favorites! Enjoy! :)

Milo - Painting finished!

Hello Everyone,

I finished Milo yesterday, the cat painting I've been working on. I am very happy with the way his face came out. The fur will just take more practice if I decide to paint another animal but overall I am happy with it. Not bad for painting a cat for the first time! :) So I am learning to photograph my paintings using DAYLIGHT and NOT home lighting. Usually, I paint at night and very excited to take pics of my progress and post them....but bad bad bad. They do not show the natural colors of the painting. So I really don't like the other WIP pics I posted because they make the colors on him seem darker than they really are, making my values look off. Anyways, enough rambling, here is the final painting.

So this little painting is a surprise gift for my friend. Milo is her kitty cat. I showed her boyfriend and he said she will love it. I have never met anybody who loves their kitty cat so much.

So as you can tell lately, I am making BIG efforts to keep my blog updated often. This is one of my goals for 2010, is to be a better blogger. I never really shared my progress with any of my work before, drawings, sketches, paintings, how I brush ink and make my posters. I think this a lot of fun to do, so stay tuned for more! :) I also plan to share fun adventures in my personal life as well. I have some fun posts thought up for the future. UPDATE!!! 4-19-2010

I gave my friend her Milo painting on Sunday and she screamed several times in excitement. She was soooo happy! She was showing her kitty the painting of himself. It was so cute! I am so glad she liked it. I received more of a wonderful reaction than I anticipated...yay, so gratifying! :)

Hi Everyone,

Here is the latest on Milo that I painted tonight. He is almost done. I decide to leave the angle of his mouth and his expression alone. I need to push a more burnt sienna tone in him to make him pop more. He is looking a bit washed out. I have one more layer to go on him and he will be done. Again, this is my first time painting a cat and I think it is going pretty well. I am having fun and that's what counts right?

Hello everyone,

I finally started painting Milo, the cat sketch I posted a while back. I needed some chunks of time with my busy schedule to work on him. I never painted a cat before and I am having sooo much fun! I am pretty critical of myself and the eyes, nose and mouth are a bit off angle but I am hoping I can fix it. He looks a bit cartoony, which I hope I can change. If not then maybe I will just leave it. So I thought I show you a WORK IN PROGRESS. I still have a couple of more sessions to go on him. His eyes are a bit green but I plan on toning them down. I am painting in oils so it takes time to dry before I can move on to the next painting session.

Today is my birthday! Yes, why yes, I was born on April Fool's Day...no joke! In fact two other members in my family are born on the first of the month too...kinda bizarre. My phone rang off the hook with birthday wishes. Birthday emails came pouring in, along with text messages from all my wonderful friends and family. I also cannot forgot the wonderful birthday messages I received today from my wonderful Twitter friends (love you tweets!). My two friends treated me to birthday lunch then my beautiful husband took me out to a wonderful Sushi place I wanted to try in Sausalito called, Sushi Ran. You know I am a sushi-holic right? It was quite good. Then we went for a drive along Sausalito Bay, then into Golden Gate Park where we went to see the blooming Spring flowers. Then drove to Ocean Beach to watch the Sunset...awwwhhh. After that, then we went to Herbivore and had vegan Vanilla Bean ice cream and a Chocolate cupcake which I gladly shared with hubby. I can never eat this stuff by myself...always need help. LOL! :)

I feel so incredibly blessed with all the amazing love and beautiful people that fill my life each day. Life is grand, here is to many more. :)

Meet Milo...WIP

So here is my current work in progress of what I am working on. Meet Milo...a super sweet Maine Coon cat that belongs to one of my super close friends, Charlene. Charlene is an excellent friend and I wanted to make her a special gift of her kitty cat. :) I have never met someone that loves their kitty cat so much.

So this is my concept sketch of Milo. Since this sketch I have refined it a bit on Vellum and have broken it into shapes, which I plan to paint in oils in a 6x6 format. This is my first pet portrait and I am totally confident I can ace it! This is totally different than my art nouveau meets psychedelic style but I think it will be a good challenge for me.

I have not painted in oils in a long while but I always was naturally good at it. My space in my tiny apartment in SF is so limited I really have no place to oil paint...except a corner of the kitchen table (which hubby never really approved of). He wants to be supportive and my intuition has been telling me to paint for A LONG TIME. So I am going to break back into painting in small format for now. Yes, I can always get a studio but I live in SF and I refuse to pay double rent, as I am saving my pennies to buy a house.

So stay tuned. I spin a lot of plates in my life and my schedule is always crazy busy. So I have to work on this as I have pockets of free time.

Hiking on the first day of Spring! :)

Hello all!

Hubby and I spent the first day of Spring hiking at Mt. Tam today. Even though it was a bit overcast, it was a beautiful day! Silly me, I left my good camera in the car while we were hiking along the trails. So, all I had was my iphone camera. :( I tried to snap a few pics with my iphone camera along the trails but they just did not do justice with the way the sunlight was hitting.

So, when I got back to the car I got out my good digital camera and snapped a few pics of the view where we hiked.

In this pic, you can see a bit of the trails on your left.

If you live in the Bay Area and want to go hiking. I encourage you to go hiking on the Mt. Tam trails! You won't be sorry, plus you'll get some exercise, release some endorphins and get many breaths of fresh air! :) That's always a good thing! :)

Hi Everyone!

So I thought I post a few more wedding pics that a couple of our friends took. We eloped on Waialae Beach Park in Oahu, Hawaii on February 13th. We also hired an AMAZING professional photographer, Barbara Gibson www.terraphotography.com. We cannot share her photos but we recently got a sneak peek of a few and they are friggin' amazing! :) We will get to see and have all of her photos that she took at the end of March...we cannot wait! :) Anyways, I hope you enjoy a few snapshots that our friends took. :)

Here is Dan and I the night before the wedding, having Sushi with our best friends! :)

If you ever go to Oahu, you have to try this Sushi spot called, Mitch's Fish Shack. It was some of the best sushi I have ever tasted in my life! :) The decor is not the best though and it is a bit pricey but well worth it! :) Especially if you are a sushi addict like me! :)

The next day...On to the wedding! :)

I really have to hand it to one of my best friend's, Charlene. She was such a rock star. She did my hair and make-up. She made me look so beautiful! :)

I really love this picture of us. We also made my own bouquet for $24. I bought my flowers at Safeway (that's right, Safeway!), got some satin ribbon before hand and some nice Pearl pins and wala...a beautiful bouquet. I would like to thank youtube for the tutorial. :)

Dan and Reverend Allan walking down the beach. Reverend Allan was so incredibly special. We really lucked out with him. He had such a really sweet sense about him and you can tell he had a lot of passion for marrying couples. The best part is, he did the whole ceremony barefoot and played a lovely song on the Ukulele after we got married. Then he said a Hawaiian prayer with us as a married couple. It was so beautiful and perfect!

Sweet Charlene with these beautiful rose pedals. We wanted a circle of rose pedals around us and we also wanted rose pedals thrown on us when we pronounced husband and wife. :) Our rock star friends made it happen for us! :) Did you know you could buy different colored rose pedals at Safeway in Oahu in little plastic containers...who knew?

Awe the cermony begins! The wind was a bit brutal on us but awwwhh everything else was so perfect. We feel so eternally grateful! :) Dan was a just a wee bit nervous and forgot to take his sunglasses off at the beginning of the ceremony. :)

After we were officially married, Reverend Allan played a little Don Hoe song on his Ukelele...awwwh! :)

Champagne time...woohoo! Courtesy of our best friend Mike (Charlene's boyfriend). I am not a Champagne drinker but whatever this Champagne was, it was good! :)

Then back to the hotel lobby for some pillow fight action with sweet Charlene. Okay we did not actually hit each other with pillows, we were just pretending for the camera! LOL! Afterwards, I changed my dress and we all went out for an amazing dinner! Our friends surprised us with a beautiful miniature Plumeria wedding cake. Plumeria is my favorite Hawaiian flower! :) Mike has all the pics from that night and I am waiting for those pics...tap tap tap! All in all, it was a beautiful day (81 degrees) and my dream wedding. It was so simple, just like Dan and I wanted it to be. Unfortunately, our parents could not make it but we are having a reception party in April for friends and family. I will be wearing my dress again...Woohoo! :) The End! :)

Just Married in Hawaii!

Hello Everyone! :)

My beautiful fiance (now hubby) and I have eloped in Hawaii on Feb. 13th! :)

It was so perfect and magical. We had a few friends as witnesses. Dan and I wanted a very simple intimate wedding and we had just that! We wanted to get married in paradise, avoid the high cost and stress with a big wedding. We are so incredibly happy.

I want to wish everyone a wonderful and Happy New Year. This year has started off with some huge hurdles. I cannot say what they about. All I can say is it's a bit exciting.

I have been doing a lot of flatware design lately for an existing client. I can never show what I am working on, as I am under contract.

I started working on my first pattern project in sewing but am so swamped in my life that I don't know when I will get to finish my prototype.

Hello and Happy almost 2010! Oof it has been a long time since I blogged! Shame on me!

Yikes, well I am typing this now...I am gonna be a better blogger for 2010. I am considering of getting out of the poster world and just doing art prints from now on. I have lots of ideas brewing of what I want to do. I am thinking of doing limited edition silkscreens, which are expensive to get printed but there is nothing quite like a silkscreen print! I have also been embarking on a new creative journey called sewing! I have been taking classes and learning so much! So somehow I want to combine my art style with sewing. I hope you all have a safe and a very Happy New Year!

Well as you can tell I am not much of a blogger. You have a better chance following me on Twitter. :) I am still teaching arts and crafts but sadly the center where I teach is closing. So June will be my last month of teaching. It has been a lot of fun and it is something that I am very new at doing. I am working on an exciting illustration project right now, which I will post at the beginning of June so stay tuned. Until then Happy Spring, almost Summer. :)

It has been a long time since I blogged but not to worry, I have not disappeared. I'm just a bit reclusive. I've been diving into the whole crafty world lately and been teaching arts and crafts. As you can see by my pics, it is a whole lot of fun. Though, this is a totally different hemisphere from my whole psychedelic illustration style, I have always enjoyed cute things. My cute crafty creations is filling that void.

Meet Zippy, he is my super cute crafty snake that lives in my windowsill and helps block out the cold air that seeps in
from my drafty window.

Here are a couple of my student's Valentine's Day Project. We made tissue paper heart wreaths. They turned out really nice.

Congratulations to Barack Obama in becoming the 44th President of the United States! He faces many challenges in our country right now and I hope he can bring the REAL CHANGE that America desperately needs. He has promised us a lot and we as Americans, expect a lot from him.

Back from a road trip to New Mexico...

I just got back from a lovely road trip to New Mexico. On my trek I traveled through Nevada, Utah and Colorado.
I got to check out many great towns such as Taos, Truchas, Santa Fe and Albuquerque in New Mexico.
Here are some pictures from my travels.

I am a HUGE steam train fanatic and while my stop in Ely, Nevada I found a gold mine. They have one of the last original
train yards dating back from 1906. I paid $4 for a walking tour by an old retired train hobbie fantatic and let me tell you
he knew his stuff. I learned so much history of this train yard and all their amazing trains and railcars that I was in pure heaven.

This is the Ghost Train built in 1910 and she is a beauty! She is considered the queen of all the steam trains owned in Ely.
She is currently in the shop getting her two axles repaired. Hope she makes a fast recovery and is back on track soon!

The rocks and the arches in Moab Utah were amazing!

Here are some friendly fellows I met walking along the way in Truchas. They knew how to work the camera!

Mesa Verdi is a very cool and and a historic place to check out.

Awhhh and Colorado...why oh why did I not take more pictures of this beautiful state...grrr!

My favorite part of the trip was the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque!!! If you have never been, you gotta go!
Here is some pics from dawn patrol. I was on the field at 5:30AM as I watched 7 balloons take off before the sun rose.

The Brazilian balloonist also built Nemo (who was also new this year).

I just completed a commissioned painting for the very highly acclaimed company, LU Biscuits! This is 20x30 oil on canvas. My painting will be on display at the Food & Wine American Wine Awards Oct. 7th, 2008 at the De Young Museum(yes at the De Young Museum woo hoo!) as part of the “Art of LU” program sponsored by LU Biscuits.

The Bees Need Us!!!

I illustrated this black and white flyer for Vanishingbees.com. I normally don't do too much cartoon stuff but the client loved my work and contacted me. The client wanted a determined war like cartoon honey bee and the flyer designed like a WWII Propaganda poster. This was a fun little job and what a better way to do something to help support the bees. The bee character is inked with a brush on hot press illustration board. The honey bees are currently vanishing and this is an important event to get people aware of what they can do to help. If you can make this event it will be Sunday Sept. 21 at the Randall Museum in San Francisco.

Okay me and my fiance have lived in San Francisco for well, a while now and have never been to Alcatraz. Since we have family staying with us, yesterday was the perfect day to go and explore. We lucked out with the weather, it was gorgeous!! A perfect day to finally go! If you have never been, you need to go....it's awesome!

Not everyday do you get to see sunsets like this in San Francisco. The weather here has been very warm....one day almost a 100!
My fiance took this beautiful shot from our roof top on May 14th (my Dad's birthday--Happy Birthday Dad!). The trees you see, is Golden Gate Park.

The Summer of Love 40TH Anniversary DVD is finally here and for sale at 2B1 records. My Summer of Love poster art was used for disc 1 and disc 3 of the DVD/CD set and back of the DVD packaging...super cool! My poster artist friend Chris Shaw's Summer of Love poster art was used for the front.

This is my newest poster for the well acclaimed flamenco guitarist Jose Manuel "El Grillu" Blanco and the Sol Y Luna Band 10 year reunion concert at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. This my very FIRST poster to be silkscreened....Hooray!
The poster measures 13x18 and is a four color silkscreen limited edition of 100. Each print is signed and numbered.
This is an actual photograph of the poster.

museum in Golden Gate Park. I felt totally inspired by seeing his work in person today. The show goes until October 28th and definitely worth seeing!
